The Technology Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK) in partnership with the African Union Commission is launching Africa’s first GSM Global Roaming Exchange (GRX) on Thursday, 8th September 2016 at the EADC center. Her Excellency Dr. Elham M.A. Ibrahim African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy together with Mr. Joe Mucheru the CS Ministry of ICT Kenya  to officiate this event.

East Africa Data Centre (EADC) is set to host Africa’s first GSM Global Roaming Exchange (GRX), guaranteeing connectivity, security and power supply.

The global roaming exchange will help in cutting cost of mobile operators ,removing the need for a dedicated link between each mobile service provider.GRX will help to reduce the roaming charges and facilitate easy connectivity to the exchange.

“All african GSM mobile operators can get access to other networks through the KIXP GSM global to provide customers with mobile capabilities such as roaming, phone calls , data transfers and messaging.Mobile operators  will benefit from global coverage through a single connection and secure network routes,” said Ms.Fiona Asonga , C.E.O Tespok.

“The presence of GRX here in Kenya and Africa is expected to enhance the mobile operators’ roaming operations. By keeping African data within the continent we are all helping to build Africa’s digital future,” said Dan Kwach, General Manager EADC.

The facility is the largest and most sophisticated data centre in East Africa. Opened in 2013, it is a Tier 3 facility built to the specifications of the Uptime Institute, a globally acclaimed data centre certification body that focuses on the design of mission critical facilities in order to deliver uptime and operational sustainability. EADC offers carrier-neutral, secure and reliable space for dedicated hosting, interconnect services, co-location, disaster recovery, network-based services, applications and cloud services to carriers, network providers and enterprises from across the continent. It clients range from mobile network operators, ISPs, cloud solutions providers and banks among others.
