TESPOK convened a stakeholder meeting at the Nairobi Serena Hotel, bringing together TESPOK members, the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), MultiChoice Kenya, and the National Steering Committee on Digital Piracy to discuss the recent Communications Authority directives issued pursuant to Court Order HCCCOMM/E351/2026.
The meeting provided a platform for constructive dialogue on copyright protection, digital piracy, and the practical implementation of the court directive, with the aim of fostering collaboration and building industry consensus on the way forward.
During the meeting, Roy Gitahi of the National Steering Committee on Digital Piracy presented the current digital piracy enforcement process in Kenya, outlining the four key stages: complaint and verification, evidence collection and takedown, court-issued blocking orders, and block and staydown. He noted that the court has already issued its ruling and urged industry players to comply with the directive while continuing to engage through the appropriate legal and regulatory processes.
TESPOK members also shared their perspectives on the implementation of the directive, highlighting concerns about its potential impact on end-user experience, the significant investment that may be required in additional network infrastructure and hardware, and the importance of broader stakeholder engagement in the development of policies and regulations affecting the ICT sector.
TESPOK remains committed to fostering constructive dialogue among stakeholders to support effective intellectual property protection while promoting a resilient, innovative, and sustainable digital ecosystem in Kenya.
